Friday, September 1, 2017, at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson. Interment will follow at the Simon Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.Cheryl was born on March 17, 1957, in Simon, Okla., to the late Mr. Thomas Monroe “Sonny” Culwell and Mrs. Joyce Romines. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore.Cheryl was raised south of Wilson, residing at Simon. She attended school at Turner, graduating with the Turner class of 1975. After graduating high school, she attended college at Murray State in Tishomingo for two years, then attended ECU where she received her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. In 1979 she gained employment with Davis Public Schools and was an elementary teacher there until 2009. She spent every summer working the concession stand at Turner Falls. After retiring from her teaching career, she worked at Hilltop Veterinarian Hospital in Davis and at the Sulphur Wal-Mart Pharmacy. Cheryl loved going to music concerts and shopping. She also enjoyed her dogs and eating at Santa Fe Steak House in Ardmore.Preceding her in death are her parents, Sonny and Joyce; grandparents, Curly and Altha Culwell, and Charles and Lemmie Romine.Cheryl is survived by her sister, Janette Carlile and husband, Aaron of Simon; nieces, Brandi Carlile and spouse, Danyelle of Simon, and Lori Mai of Marietta; best friend, Karen Morris of Davis; her canine companion, Tinker Bell; great-nieces, Kaylyn Barbour and Tyler Mai of Marietta; numerous cousins; and a host of other family members.Casket bearers will be Terry Hix, Jerry Hix, Pete Carlile, Danny Morris, Curtis Nipp, and Finley Morgan.Honorary casket bearers will be Jackie Sexton, Keith Smith, Garth Smith, Don Culwell and all past students and co-educators of Davis Public Schools.A family visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 1, 2017, from 6-8 p.m., at Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.

TEENS ARRESTED IN ALVORD SHOOTING – Two Decatur teenagers were arrested late Wednesday night in connection with a shooting in Alvord in the early morning hours of Aug. 7. Christopher Lee Bryan, 18, and David Jackson Huggins, 17, have both been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity. Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said the shooting took place at a home in the 300 block of North Wickham Street on Aug. 7. Rhett Barclay, 17, was shot once while Brent Dixon, 41, was shot multiple times. Both survived their injuries. Akin said the shooting involved a burglary tied with drug activity and drug trafficking. He said his office is also pursuing charges against a 16-year-old as well. The investigation is ongoing.5-VEHICLE WRECK – A five-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon shut down the northbound lanes of U.S. 81/287 at Texas 114 in Rhome. About 4:45 p.m. a man in a Dodge dually attempted to take the exit from northbound U.S. 81/287 to Texas 114 West. Rhome Police Officer Brody Brown said other vehicles waiting to turn onto 114 were backed up on the exit ramp and 287. Brown said the dually driver did not realize those cars were in line to exit. When he realized traffic was stopped, he swerved left but still clipped a passenger car near the back of the line. He hit three more vehicles in the line before bouncing off the last one and rolling the dually twice.
